PDF splitter
Split one PDF by page, every N pages, or page ranges — see the plan, then download a ZIP or a single PDF.
Source file
1–2,000; the last file may be shorter.
Split plan and result
Add one PDF to see its split plan.
How to use it
- Drop one PDF on the card, paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V, or press “Choose PDF”. The default mode splits it into one file per page; the plan appears immediately and there is no Split button.
- Pick “Every N pages” to cut the document into fixed-size groups (the last file may be shorter), or “Page ranges” to make one file per range. Ranges accept commas, Chinese enumeration marks and Arabic commas; Arabic-Indic, Eastern Arabic and full-width digits are also accepted. Each range becomes its own PDF, and the page count in the result header counts repeated pages again.
- The status turns green and says “Split ready · N files” when every file is built. Download the ZIP, or a single PDF when the plan has only one part. Each row has its own preview and download button; preview opens in a dialog and never uploads anything.
Example
report.pdf — 6 pages
Every page → 6 PDFs Every 2 pages → 3 PDFs Ranges 1-3, 5 → 2 PDFs
What you get
report-p1.pdf … report-p6.pdf report-p1-2.pdf, report-p3-4.pdf, report-p5-6.pdf report-p1-3.pdf, report-p5.pdf
Output names come from the source file plus the page range and are never translated. The PDF title inside each file follows the page language. When a range repeats pages, each requested copy is kept.
Rules, limits and known issues
- Nothing is uploaded: the PDF is read with the File API and split in this tab. The page sends no network request, writes nothing to storage, and keeps no history — a reload starts empty.
- Page content is copied, not re-encoded. Images and fonts keep their original compression, so the parts together are usually about the size of the source, sometimes larger when resources are shared; this is not a compression tool.
- Password-protected PDFs are rejected; there is no “ignore encryption” option. Open the file with its password and save an unprotected copy first.
- Form fields are not carried over. Page appearances may survive, but the output is not a fillable form; flatten the form in the source if it must look exactly as it does now.
- Bookmarks/outlines, attachments and document metadata (title, author, subject) are not copied. Each output gets a localised title and a YKit Creator/Producer tag. Links on the page usually survive, but links that point to named destinations or bookmarks may stop working.
- Any split changes the bytes, so digital signatures are no longer valid. PDF/A, PDF/X and other conformance markers are not preserved either.
- Overlapping ranges repeat pages: “1-3, 2-4” produces two files and counts six pages, even if the source has only four. This is your input, not an error, and the tool does not silently remove duplicates.
- The ZIP is stored, not compressed, because PDFs are already compressed; it opens with standard unzip tools and the PDFs inside are byte-for-byte the same as individual downloads.
- Limits: one PDF, 50 MB, 2,000 pages and 500 output files. Files over a limit are rejected; a plan over 500 parts asks you to increase pages per file or use fewer ranges. Jobs over 20 MB, 300 pages or 100 parts show a “may take a few seconds” hint.
- Splitting runs on the main thread. Large jobs can occupy the tab for several seconds and make other interactions feel slow; the status shows building and packing progress while it works.
- Preview uses your browser’s built-in PDF viewer, not page thumbnails. Inline display and mobile behaviour depend on the browser; if the preview area stays blank, open the part in a new tab or download it.
- Output names replace path separators, control characters and reserved characters with “-”, trim the ends and cut long names; the source file itself is never modified.
