PDF form fill

Fill the fields of a fillable PDF, lock the answers if you need to, and download it — the file never leaves this tab.

Waiting for a PDF
Output
Flattening locks the answers into the page and cannot be undone.

Open a fillable PDF and its fields appear here.

Drop a PDF on this card, paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V, or choose a file. There is no Fill button: your answers go into the download as you type.

PDF only · up to 50 MB · 2,000 pages · AcroForm fields required.

The file stays in this tab: nothing is uploaded, stored or logged, and the page sends no network request.

No form at hand? Load a local two-page sample with six field types.

Filled PDF preview

If the preview stays blank, open the result in a new tab or download it.

How to use it

  1. Drop a PDF form on the card, paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V, or press “Choose PDF”. Every AcroForm field is listed with its type, page and label; fields that already had answers are pre-filled.
  2. Type or pick your answers. “Keep fields editable” is the default, so the recipient can still add a signature; switch to “Flatten” if the answers must not change. There is no Fill or Apply button — the PDF rebuilds as you type.
  3. Wait for the green “Filled PDF ready” status, then download. The output is named after the source file plus “-filled.pdf”; the original is never modified. “Preview” opens the real result.

Example

application.pdf — 8 fields

Full name: Grace Hopper
Plan: express
Languages: English + Arabic
Output: keep fields editable

What you get

application-filled.pdf
8 fields carry your answers
Flatten → fields removed, answers stay visible

The tool fills the fields that exist in the PDF; it does not create fields or type on top of the page. Field labels come from the document (its tooltip, or the internal field name when there is none) and are never translated.

Rules, limits and known issues

  • Nothing is uploaded: the PDF is read with the File API and rewritten in this tab. The page sends no network request, writes nothing to storage and keeps no history — a reload starts empty.
  • Only AcroForm fields can be filled: text boxes, multiline boxes, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns and list boxes. Scanned pages, image-only PDFs and flattened forms have no fields to write to.
  • XFA forms are rejected: this PDF library cannot read them, and opening one would discard its XFA data. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader for XFA.
  • Password-protected PDFs are rejected — remove the password and save a fresh copy first. Signature and button fields are reported as unsupported and are never filled here.
  • Form JavaScript never runs: calculations, validation and formatting scripts do nothing. Forms that rely on them can differ from the same file opened in Acrobat.
  • Answers are stored as Unicode in the form. Latin values are redrawn with the built-in Helvetica; Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and emoji are drawn by your PDF reader instead, so Acrobat, Preview and Chrome show them while some lightweight readers may not.
  • Flattening is only applied when every field can be redrawn with the built-in font. Forms with Chinese or Arabic answers keep editable fields instead — the tool never produces a flattened file with missing answers.
  • Redrawing with Helvetica can change the typeface, width and size of your answers compared with the form design. Check the printed result if exact placement matters.
  • Field labels come from the PDF tooltip (/TU); when there is none, the internal field name is shown (often something like “Text1”). Labels, field names and option values are never translated or guessed.
  • Read-only fields cannot be changed. “Required” is a hint only: this tool does not validate or block the download.
  • No fields are added, removed or renamed (except by flattening). Page content, annotations and bookmarks are left as they are; damaged PDFs are not repaired.
  • The output has new bytes, so digital signatures are no longer valid and PDF/A or PDF/X markers are not guaranteed to survive. Sign before or after filling, not both.
  • The field map is a schematic, not a page render: it uses each field’s widget rectangle, shows only the first page of a field that repeats, and shares one number for a radio group.
  • Limits: one PDF, 50 MB, 2,000 pages and 2,000 characters per field. Larger inputs are rejected; forms over 60 fields show a filter hint. Processing runs on the main thread, so very large files can make the tab feel busy.
  • The output name replaces reserved characters with “-”, trims the ends, cuts long names and appends “-filled.pdf”; the source file itself is never modified.
